The Master of Database Design and Management (MDDM)

(SQL Server 2005) MCITP (MDbDsgnMgt) Stream

Aims:

The aim of these courses is to provide professionals in the Information Technology (IT) industry with an advanced level of study in database design, development, implementation and management that is current, relevant and integrates industry certifications in the field.

Objectives:

Upon completion of this course, graduates will possess:

  • An informed and reflexive perspective on issues associated with computer databases
  • Advanced skills in the design, Implementation and management of complex enterprise scale databases
  • Skills in identifying and producing database solutions to Meet the business needs of customers
  • Competence in applying best practices in analysing and optimising the performance of complex databases
  • Industry certification as a Microsoft Certified IT Professional: Database Developer (MCITP: Database Developer), or a Microsoft Certified IT Professional: Database Administrator (MCITP: Database Administrator);
  • Problem-solving skills and methodologies when troubleshooting and documenting complex computing database problems
  • The ability to analyse complex client business database requirements and select appropriate solutions
  • Skills in the development of leading edge database solutions that meet customer business objectives for functionality and performance

Entrance Requirements:

Applicants will generally be expected to have a degree in any discipline and at least two years experience in the IT industry. Preference will be given to these applicants. Applicants without an undergraduate degree wishing to be considered for admission into the Master of Database Design and Management will need to have at least four years experience in the IT industry supporting or developing complex Databases. 

Course Structure:

Students will need to pass a total of 12 subjects to complete the Masters Degree.

Graduate Certificate in Database Design and Management:

The Master of Database Design and Management is an articulated course that incorporates the Graduate Certificate in Database Design and Management.  The certificate can be stand alone or, upon successful completion, students may proceed (with full credit) into the Master of Database Design and Management.  To graduate with the Graduate Certificate, students must satisfactorily complete 4 subjects, which include two industry certification subjects.

Important Note:
Subjects ITI592 and ITI593 from the Microsoft Database Administrator stream are only available for credit and are not available for study via Distance education with Charles Sturt University.   Credit for ITI592 and ITI593 industry certification subjects will be awarded on proof that the students have passed the Microsoft industry certification exams numbers 70-443 (Subject ITI592) and 70-444 (Subject ITI593).

Important Note:
Subjects ITE502, ITI594 and ITI595 from the Microsoft Database Developer stream are only available for credit and are not available for study via Distance education with Charles Sturt University.   Credit for ITI594 and ITI595 industry certification subjects will be awarded on proof that the students have passed the Microsoft industry certification exams numbers 70-441 (Subject ITI594) and 70-442 (Subject ITI595).

Credit:

Academic credit is available to students who can provide proof that they have passed relevant industry examinations. Request more information to obtain an estimate of your credit entitlements.

NOTE: The actual level of credit awarded will be confirmed upon acceptance into the Masters Degree.
