Microsoft Certified IT Professional: Microsoft Certified Database Administrator and/or Developer

Aims:

The aim of this course is to prepare students to succeed in management positions that leverage computing technology to operate and expand business endeavours. The course will provide educational opportunities to information professionals for the 21st century, as the world moves from an economy of stand-alone companies to interdependent enterprises connected by the products of a global information infrastructure. The needs of existing IT managers, programmers, developers, network engineers, and other IT workers who aspire to move upward into technical management positions will be catered to with the emphasis on exploiting information technologies for productivity and competitiveness.

Objectives:

Upon completion of this course, graduates will possess:

  • An industry certification from Microsoft;
  • The ability to critically evaluate and apply management and organisational theory to the practice of management;
  • The ability to critically examine the current state of management and organisational theory and practice and their relevance and applicability to the IT industry/ environment;
  • The ability to understand and critically evaluate the manager's role in relation to organisation change and broader society;
  • The ability to use a variety of theories to identify, analyse and evaluate key issues, opportunities and problems faced by the manager in the IT industry;
  • The ability to be able to analyse and write critically about the practice of management.
  • The ability to be able to raise and examine moral issues as they emerge particularly in the context of the new communications and computer technologies, and
  • A broad business knowledge base that includes areas such as project management, management and ethics.

Course Structure:

The Course consists of 4 subjects with a total value of 32 points.
For students that do not qualify for any credit, the recommended duration to complete the Graduate Certificate is 8 months. There are 3 trimesters per year and we recommend a commitment of 2 subjects per trimester.
