Aims

The aim of this course is to provide professionals in the IT industry with an introduction to Networking and System Administration that is current, relevant and integrates industry certification in these fields.

Objectives

Upon completion of this course, graduates will possess:

  • Skills in the design, implementation and management of networks;
  • Industry certification from Novell;
  • System administration knowledge and skills;
  • Skills in identifying network security risk profiles, defining network security policies and maintaining secure networks;
  • Problem-solving skills and methodologies when troubleshooting and documenting global internetworking problems;
  • The ability to analyse client business and technical requirements and select appropriate internetwork technologies and topologies, and
  • Skills in the development of solutions that meets customer business objectives for functionality, performance, and cost.

Course Structure:

The Course consists of 4 subjects which must be comprised of 2 university subjects and 2 industry subjects.

For students that do not qualify for any credit, the recommended duration to complete the Graduate Certificate is 2 trimesters. There are 3 trimesters per year and we recommend a commitment of 2 subjects per trimester.

Credit:

Academic Credit:

Credit is available for Academic Subjects to students who have completed Postgraduate study that covers the same content as a subject in the program. Thorough detail of any completed studies that are proposed for credit must be supplied.

Industry Credit:

Credit is available for Industry (Certification-based) Subjects to students who can provide proof that they have passed relevant industry examinations. Prospective students can fill out the questionnaire to obtain an estimate of their credit entitlements.

Actual level of credit awarded will be confirmed upon acceptance into the course.
