IT Masters Cisco CCNA v3

In 2013 we ran a course designed to help prepare students for Cisco’s CCNA v1 certification process and it has since proved one of our most popular courses.

This updated CCNA course provides an overview of the technologies & theories you will need to understand in order to pass the current CCNA exams. It will also detail the various changes to the certification from v1 through to v3.

Cisco CCNA v3 was developed in partnership with the Information Technology Professionals Association (ITPA) – an industry association whose members are IT professionals aiming to advance the practice of information technology as a profession.

This short course is free. By signing up you will also receive a free ITPA membership (associate level) and their newsletter.

Who will present the webinars?

These webinars are presented by our senior industry based Cisco Lecturer: Matt Constable. Matt’s experience and qualifications include:

  • 14 years as a network engineer, cyber security analyst and communications engineer
  • Managed a team of engineers who provided L3 support on a network with 110 remote sites and 7000 users
  • Designed, developed, and delivered the Cisco certification subjects in the Master of Networking and Systems Administration at Charles Sturt University
  • Has a total of 6 academic qualifications including a Master of Computer Security, a Certificate IV in Training & Assessment and a Graduate Diploma in Psychology
  • Extensive experience as a sports coach and martial arts instructor

Will this short course fully prepare me for the CCNA certification exams?

No — not unless you have lots of experience working with Cisco routers and switches. One reason that a CCNA certification is so highly regarded is that the exams are very difficult. So, unless you already have lots of experience, you should consider supplementing what you learn in this short course by:

  • Enrolling in an authorised CCNA training courses with organisations such as the DDLS, or in the practical internetworking subject with Charles Sturt University
  • The Boson Cisco CCNA labs, courseware and practice exam

Will the course help me prepare for both CCNA exams?

Yes, this course will help you prepare for exam 100-105 ICND1 and exam 200-105 ICND2

How does CCNA v3 differ from CCNA v1?

This will be discussed during the course, but, briefly, CCNA v3 tests in the following additional areas:

  • Infrastructure components and impact of their interactions for firewalls, access points, and wireless controllers
  • Collapsed core architecture vs. three-tier architectures
  • How to configure and verify IPv6 Stateless Address Auto Configuration (SLAAC)
  • RIPv2 for IPv4 serves as primary focus for routing protocols
  • DNS and DHCP related connectivity issues
  • Backing up and restoring device configurations
  • Dual- vs. single-homed intelligent WAN topology options
  • External BGP (eBGP) as used to connect enterprise branches
  • VPN topics now include DMVPN, site-to-site VPN, and client VPN technologies in common enterprise use
  • How cloud resources are used in enterprise network architectures, including how cloud services affect network traffic paths and flows, common virtualised services and how they coexist with legacy infrastructure
  • Basics of virtual network infrastructure (NFV)
  • Awareness of programmable, software-defined network (SDN) architectures, including separation of control and data planes, and how a controller functions and communicates
  • Using Path Trace application for ACLs
  • Understanding QoS concepts as they related to marking, shaping and policing mechanisms for congestion management

Will the course count towards my Professional Development Points?

Provided you pass the assessment at credit level or above, completion of the course will qualify you for both entry into the ITPA Certified Practicing Member program and also for 10 of the 20 Professional Development Points required to achieve ITPA Certified Practicing Member status.
