Master of Project Management (2015)

What is this course about?
CSU’s Master of Project Management is designed for professionals from diverse backgrounds who seek to successfully manage complex projects. Students of the course will also prepare for a range of project management certifications such as those from the Project Management Institute (PMI).
Aims & Objectives
The aim of this course is to provide project management professionals with an advanced course of study in Project Management that is current, relevant and prepares students for industry certification from the Project Management Institute (PMI), the Australian Institute of Project Managers (AIPM) and Prince2. On completion of the Master of Project Management, graduates will be able to:

  • Demonstrate a high level of understanding and knowledge of project management;
  • Direct teams in project delivery;
  • Perform duties consistent with the Project Management Professional (PMP) certification of the Project Management Institute, and
  • Manage large and complex projects effectively and efficiently.

Industry certifications
The Master of Project Management prepares students for the following industry certifications:

  • The Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM), Project Management Professional (PMP) and the Program Management Professional PgMP) from the Project Management Institute (PMI).
  • The Qualified Project Practitioner (RegPM QPP) and Registered Project Manager (RegPM) certifications from the Australian Institute of Project Managers (AIPM).
  • Prince2 Certification from the UK Office of Government Commerce (OGC).

Entry requirements
Applicants are required to have an undergraduate degree from a recognised tertiary institution and a minimum of three years’ work experience. Students without a tertiary qualification may be admitted via a Graduate Certificate pathway if they can demonstrate they have a minimum of five years’ appropriate professional/managerial work experience. Course structure
The course consists of 12 subjects with a total value of 96 points. For students that do not qualify for any credit, the recommended duration to complete the Masters Degree is 2 years. There are 3 sessions per year and we recommend a commitment of 2 subjects per session.

This subject introduces key practical and theoretical aspects of strategic management. It provides an overview of the debates in strategic management, offers an effective introduction and orientation to the field, and also addresses the potential benefits and limitations of strategic management. Abstract

This subject examines the identification, measurement and management of risk using multi-disciplinary techniques. The role of the decision maker and the role of decision making heuristics and bias are studied together with key qualitative and quantitative techniques used to model, measure and treat risk. The subsequent treatment of risk through risk retention, self insurance or the transfer and avoidance of risk is also examined. The subject allows students to identify these concepts from the perspective of a risk manager, e.g., establish risks in relation to individuals, property and legal liability. Whenever possible, study examples will be based on the real-world problems encountered in the work environment of students.

Abstract

Abstract

This subject is focused on the role of the PRINCE2 Project Management Lifecycle as a means of delivering organisational change. Change is a dynamic and perpetual process, and this subject introduces students to a range of theoretical and practical perspectives that facilitate a critical awareness of organisational change. The relationship between the organisation and the staff affected by change is examined through contemporary change-management thinking. Program management encompasses the coordinated management of multiple projects designed to implement strategies and deliver specific benefits. Graduate Certificate in Project Management
The Master of Project Management is an articulated course that incorporates the Graduate Certificate in Project Management.  The certificate can be stand alone or, upon successful completion, students may proceed (with full credit) into the Master of Project Management. To graduate with the Graduate Certificate, students must satisfactorily complete the following four core subjects:

Credit
Academic credit is available to students who can provide proof they have passed relevant industry certification examinations.
